- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 19258106, a month agoThe extension looks the part but has usability issues that need managing manually.
The main usability issue is that if you're connected to a VPN server and the computer goes into sleep mode then later resumes, the connection isn't refreshed/handled properly, effectively blocking traffic until you manually disconnect/reconnect. Occasionally this issues causes the GUI to become unresponsive too, requiring the extension itself to be restarted.
There's also no feedback given on the connection quality/speed of the server you're currently connected to. If it starts to feel slow, it requires manually moving to another server; there's no automatic transfer to a better equivalent server within the same country.
Not a negative mark on the extension per se - but it's worth noting that there's a growing list of websites that will detect you using a VPN (likely through matching your IP against IPs known to belong to Proton/etc.), making VPN usage for 'general' anonymous browsing more and more frustrating.
Proton VPN itself works well and provides lots of protections and connection configuration; it's just the extension that has a few issues really.Developer response
posted a month agoThank you for your review. Could you share more details about the connection issue? Are you able to consistently reproduce it? Which version of Firefox, as well as the Proton VPN extension do you have installed? What device are you experiencing this issue on exactly? Contact us by clicking on Help in the Proton VPN extension, then selecting 'Contact us' so we can help you troubleshoot.
On another note, some websites block known VPN IP addresses. Let us know which websites you're having trouble accessing, as well as the servers you're connected to in the process so we can help. Meanwhile, you can try switching between multiple different servers to see whether the behavior improves with some of them.
Lastly, we've documented your request regarding automatic reconnection to a faster server for future consideration. - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 19214598, a month agoI need to reboot the extension whenever I switch wifi networks or else every few days. I routinely keep about:addons open so I can turn the extension off and on again. When I click the extension icon in the toolbar in this state, it just shows me a loading spinner. Besides this hiccup, the extension works great. (I am a subscriber.)

- Rated 4 out of 5by Einar Ólafsson, 4 months agoIt work mostly well, but it will have issues reconnecting if the computer goes to sleep or if Firefox serivce get interutped in some way. The extentions does not seem to be listed on Proton support pages, so not sure either where to report these issues or find forums to discuss issues.

posted 8 months agoSorry to hear that. Proton VPN is currently officially supported on the latest stable versions of Debian, Ubuntu, and Fedora, using GNOME desktop environment. Moreover, the browser extension itself, it's not optimized for mobile devices at the moment. Nonetheless, we've passed on your feedback to the team for future improvements. - Rated 4 out of 5by Michael, 9 months agoGostaria de um modo reverso no tunelamento dividido, pois preciso do VPN para apenas alguns sites.
Fora isso, muito bom.Developer response

- Rated 4 out of 5by Lucy, 2 years agoWorks nice if you have a paid subscription. Though, would be wonderful to implement reverse version of the split-tunneling, when only sites specified are routed through the VPN.
E.g. if I'm ok with revealing my ip to most of the sites I visit, or I already route all the home network traffic through a local Proton server, but I want to completely hide my location from selected few sites. For them I'd like Firefox to automatically route the connection through a secure-core network. Currently it is only available when you manually connect and disconnect the extension as needed, and I often forget to do so.
Otherwise, a very useful extension - Rated 4 out of 5by VPN, 2 years ago
- Rated 4 out of 5by Greg, 2 years agoGreat extension.
BUT, at every FF start, I cannot access any pages without switching the extension off and on again. Then it works perfectly.
Having profiles and Netshield would be a great addition. :).
