the issue is it automatically connects you to a server, they say it use the fastest one but actually its random. for me for example netherland and romani servers works good but it auto connects me randomly to USA and Poland which do not work so i have to press the change btn a lot of times to randomly get netherland or romani. the system actually sucks it didnt used to be this wayDeveloper response
posted a day agoThe default Quick connect option will connect you to the fastest available server for you. This leads to better load balancing and higher speed, which is a priority for free users. If you'd like to connect to a specific server in a country of your choice, you may consider upgrading your plan.
That said, can you let us know what exactly doesn't work when connected to our free US and Poland servers?
Developer response

posted 7 days agoThat doesn’t sound right. Could you share more details about the issue? Are you receiving any error messages? Are you using any other extensions for privacy/security purposes? Do you have any antivirus or firewall app installed? Therefore those Proxies are no longer available. The Proton VPN Firefox Extension could do a self check and provide better user experience in these situations. Does Proton doesn't have an automatic Flow at their servers?

Unfortunately it very frequently fails to connect, or will say it's connected but you can't actually load any web pages. Sometimes the extension itself will even say that it is having trouble connecting and needs to be reinstalled which does work...until the same problem happens all over again. If it weren't for the reliability issues it would be an easy 4-star extension, with the 5th star being reserved for feature-parity with the mobile and desktop apps.

Meanwhile, we've documented your feedback for future consideration as our team is constantly working on feature parity across all platforms. - Rated 2 out of 5by Pursuant Fox, 5 months agoFirefox extension has no support for mobile.
This is a major issue for anyone looking to maintain their privacy on-the-go.
If I were to use a VPN app that connects me to my home server, I wouldn't have the option of using the native Proton VPN client as well.
The lack of mobile support for this extension is a serious issue.Developer response

Since then it has done nothing but block all connections in Firefox, while other browsers work flawlessly with the same sites at the same time.
Disconnecting and reconnecting accomplishes nothing. I can't use this.Developer response

- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 18191082, 8 months agoLatest update has me stuck on the "press Next and then Allow" screen for permissions, but there is no 'Next' button to click, and checking the add-on says all permissions are enabled.

- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13659045, 2 years agoIt's buggy. At the beginning it would keep reconnecting and switching server all the time, though this was a few months ago so I don't know if that's fixed. But now I tried using it again and its supposed to reconnect when restarting browser but instead it gets stuck and doesn't connect. I had to disable the extension. Also if my internet goes out the vpn doesn't automatically reconnect I have to manually disconnect and connect again.
- Rated 2 out of 5by MB, 2 years agoIncredibly flaky VPN connection. I can be happiliy browsing then things .... just ... stop. Then I look at the extension icon and it's a warning yellow. It's disconnected with no notification. So I click to reconnect and a notification shows "Connected", BUT the actual window still shows connecting, and more often than not that connection actually fails.
It's got nice features with split tunneling and so on, but way too frustrating to use regularly. - Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13594626, 2 years agoThe Proton VPN service is good, but the extension is incredibly buggy. After every time I restart my browser, wake up my computer from sleep, or just randomly when it loses the connection, the only way to reconnect is to disable the extension then enable it again. Sometimes I have to do this multiple times to make it work.
- Rated 2 out of 5by mastik, 2 years agoThe application is extremely raw!
1. There is no protection against IP tracking
2. There is no automatic reconnection in case of connection loss
3. Frequent disconnections - Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 17954442, 2 years agoAlthough I love the idea behind the app, using it has seriously downgraded my internet experience. Works fine after installation, but alfter closing my browser and restarting it, it shows connected but none of my (buffered) pages will load. Disconnecting and reconnecting more often than not results in the app saying it can't make a connection to the server. The only way I get it to work so far is disconnecting vpn, loading pages without the vpn connection, and then connecting VPN again - miraculously, suddenly, it connects to the servers. But having to load pages without vpn first seems to beat the purpose of it. This is not the robust proton applicatin quality I've come to love, I'll be switching back to the desktop app.
- Rated 2 out of 5by RT, 2 years agoIt's nice to have a proton vpn extension. However, after successfully conneting, all traffic in the browser is blocked by the company firewall. The extension needs measures to circumvent blocks, otherwise is useless in most relevant cases (or countries).
edit: secure core is blocked too. Using the proton desktop application, only stealth protocol is able to connectDeveloper response
posted 2 years agoHello, can you maybe try Secure Core, as it's using a different port on the browser extension, if a firewall is blocking by port, it might fix it. - Rated 2 out of 5by barrowsx, 2 years agoThe actual ProtonVPN service itself is definitely 5 stars, but unfortunately this add-on has a few glaring issues that make it borderline unusable:
- The connection will randomly drop and reconnect. Obviously for a VPN extension, this is a pretty critical failure and needs to be addressed ASAP.
- Compounding this, as far as I can tell, there is no "kill switch" option at all, so if the tunnel loses connection then your web traffic leaks to your ISP.
- When the extension randomly drops your connection, if you have the "Secure Core" option selected, it will not reconnect via Secure Core and instead just directly reconnect to the fastest server.
Additionally, it would be nice if you could enable some free servers for those with non-premium accounts, but I recognize that you're running a business and the extension is meant to be a value add for paying users. Having said that, however, the extension itself is critically flawed, and I would recommend users instead use the desktop version of ProtonVPN and tunnel your web browser's traffic through it instead, as it at least has a functioning kill switch option to help prevent leaks. - Rated 2 out of 5by Forage, 2 years agoGreat idea, quick and easy to use...but unfortunately highly unreliable. It keeps disconnecting regularly after a few minutes (<5) without clear reason and without any indication. You are now forced to 1) add the add-on icon to the toolbar and 2) keep an eye on it at all times.

Does the 1.0.1 works better for you regarding the disconnection issue? - Rated 2 out of 5by ThisIsRandom2, 2 years agoIt keeps disconnecting. I have already upgraded to 0.1.7. It happens whenever there is inactivity and you resume browsing. The inactivity triggers the disconnect. If I keep actively browsing it won't disconnect. However, that's not sustainable.

posted 2 years agoHello, thanks for your report, browsers have mechanisms to shutdown services that are no longer "needed" and our proxy got kicked by this when there are no requests. It's in our top priorities to prevent this.
